Monitoring object
Monitoring object is an element of IT infrastructure with indivisible availability: server, operating system, network element, DBMS, etc., which need to ensure regular and stable performance. The monitoring object can be any: local, virtual, network, etc..
The monitoring process itself is usually done automatically by application software. For a small IT infrastructure – for example, a couple of servers – monitoring is not necessary, as it can be monitored by a single administrator.
Automatic monitoring is used by medium and large companies. Such systems are specialized software with a wide range of capabilities. Examples: Icinga, Zabbix, Nagios, online and cloud services. The functionality allows:
– control host resources: CPU, disk, RAM. – monitor the operation of network services, including POP3, SMTP, HTTP . -collect detailed event statistics and create reports. -customize and send alerts. – predict and prevent failures. – plan infrastructure development. – keep track of quality of service (QoS)
